The hydrake

The hydrake

The Hydrake is a hydraulic, compact and robust new mechanism that mimics the job of a grit rake, but with greater reliability and efficiency all in one closed off unit. This enables the Hydrake to run without constant maintenance and doesn’t require a cage to be fitted around it. All moving parts on our Hydrake are easily accessible which makes it easier, safer and quicker to maintain than a traditional grit rake. It encourages sustainability by helping push for net-zero and in its reduction of carbon footprint.

How does it work?

The Hydrake rakes grit from a Detritor pushing it up a slope, which then emerges from the top out into a skip. It can be run with complete flexibility with options to run at different speeds and times offering maximum energy efficiency.

Each is a bespoke design which is particular to each installation, this enables us to create a rake of any size and inclination to fit the customers specifications.

What problems does the Hydrake solve?

Grit removal – Existing mechanical grit removal systems are known to be inefficient with only 20-30% of grit being removed vs 95% of all particles with greater than 0.2mm diameter with the Hydrake. This provides significant cost savings downstream.

Reduced downtime – Due to inefficient grit removal with existing mechanical systems, grit builds up in tanks, basins & digesters, significantly reducing volume capacity and leading to costly clean out, increasing energy consumption, process inefficiency & eventually the installation of new equipment earlier than necessary.

Energy saving – It only requires around 25% of the energy used to power mechanical systems. A customer case study demonstrated savings of £3,000 pa for energy alone.

Efficiency over time – Mechanical grit rake systems suffer rake corrosion over time, making them less effective. The Hydrake features a galvanised rake assembly, reducing corrosion & maintaining efficiency for the entire product lifespan.
